5 Things Every DJ Wants to Know

Wedding reception party dancing

Mr. and Mrs. Mosher Wedding, August 2021

At Infinity Play Entertainment, we utilize an extensive planning form to help familiarize us with you and your event, and to help you plan the big day and night. While most of these 5 of these are touched on in our form, even with such an extensive form, there are still other things you may want to relay to us.

What to Play… and For How Long

In our planning form, we definitely touch on this. You’ll want to think about songs for all of the “mini-events” of the night - the father-daughter dance, the mother-son dance, the bouquet toss, the cake cutting, your grand entrance, and so on. Stuck? Got maybe one figured out, but never thought about the other? We’ve compiled a Spotify account with playlists solely to help our brides and grooms figure out these songs. To be clear - these aren’t for us, we customize your event to you, we don’t play off of pre-determined playlists. These are for you!

In that same vein, do you have a certain part of a song that makes your heart soar and you want the song to start there - or do you want your song to fade out after a couple of minutes because you’re not big into dancing? Let us know! We can help make that happen.

The Context for Your Song Picks

Part of our job is to make sure the REALLY important-to-you songs are played, and part of what makes us more than just a DJ is the MC part of our job. Do you have a song that has been played at every family reunion? A sorority/fraternity song? A backstory to a song you’d like to share with everyone? Let us know! This keeps the crowd engaged, and it helps us shape the night.

A Little MC, or a Lot of MC

While we’re not going to announce every song, we’re not going to hog the mic all night and be annoying… aside from introductions, let us know how comfortable you are with announcements, call-outs, etc.

Share the Backstory

In the same vein as MC-ing - be sure to share with us if there are certain songs or certain stories that shouldn’t be shared. If there are some strained relationships, divorces, health reasonings, let us know. We’ll help make sure to avoid any awkward situations.

Feel like TMI (too much information?) - please know that you can confide in us and trust us to keep private things, well, private. It’s YOUR day, and the more you let us know, the better we can steer your night to be unforgettable for a positive reason, not a negative reason!

How to Pronounce Names

What may be obvious to you isn’t always obvious to others. If there are tricky pronunciations, for example cultural variations or different languages or dialects, you may find that you want party members introduced for the grand entrance by someone familiar with that language or dialect to ensure perfect pronunciation. Otherwise, we’re happy to announce, always. We just ask for help either translating or the phonetic spelling of tricky or unusual names.
