What is Uplighting at a Wedding?
You’ve picked your venue and the room has great bones, nice floors, architectural details… but you feel like something is still missing. It just doesn’t have that glam, intimate, moody “WOW” factor. That’s where uplighting steps in. While it’s not the end-all, be-all… it does help highlight details, create more light when there might not be much overhead light, and create depth in your photos and video.
By definition, uplighting is:
Uplight: “a light placed or designed to throw illumination upward.”
Uplights are typically placed around the perimeter of a room, at the base of a column or focal point within a space, such as a fountain, the head table, and more. Uplighting can be used to bring out details and create shadows. Uplighting looks best when it’s illuminating something, rather than just sitting in the middle of a room. Uplighting is different than string lighting (also known as café lights).
Uplights can be used both inside and outside. When used outside, it can help your guests navigate once the sun goes down, especially if the reception is being held outside. They can also help illuminate flowers, buildings and more.
At Infinity Play Entertainment, we use wireless, LED-based uplighting, so you don’t have to worry about wires as a tripping hazard, and because LEDs run much cooler than incandescent lighting, you don’t have to worry about guests burning themselves or fabric like curtains or drapery catching fire. Which is good - uplighting really does help accentuate folds and draping in fabric, creating dimension and mood.
With our uplighting, we can help set a romantic mood with amber-colored lighting, match color schemes if desired, or get the party started with glowing and flashing color changing uplighting. We also have “on-the-fly” ability to change the lighting - so we can start with a romantic mood during dinner, and transition into a more “club” vibe as the night goes on.
Uplighting can definitely set the mood and make for some great photos! Read more here about uplighting and how we can incorporate it into your event.
When it comes to your wedding timeline, there are some mistakes that can be avoided by leaning on your DJ, especially during your reception.
